'We Don't Build The Schools For The Teachers"

Another great episode of Reason TV with Drew Carey. If you have kids in school, it's a must-see.

This was one of the more brilliant episodes.

I have to wonder about the money being spent at today's schools. My kids' school just recently redid all of the lighting for their stage. A conservative guess would be that it came in around $50,000 (all new cans, new light board, new multi's in the back, plus curtains to cover all of it). This replaced all of the gear that was installed when the school was built about four years ago.

And they have new computers every year. Nice flat screens. Plus cloth banners all around the school with their "life skills". And projectors in every classroom, and major room as well. Not cheap ones either.

And now that they are looking at dropping my $3k property tax bill, cutting money from them will mean "job cuts, loss of programs, etc".

It really has moved from "teaching kids" to a "jobs program for teachers".

That was a fine video. The system is completely cracked. I don't care what it takes but when I have a kid they're getting home schooled. I'm not going to subject them to the mess I had to go through and the growing mess it's getting to be.

It's too bad really. There are some really good teachers out there that have a heart for their students. It's a shame to see them tossed in with the mass of so-called teachers that think the public education system exists only to pay their bills.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.

Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
