People-powered politics

Barack Obama's movement is now 1 million people strong. That is a mighty achievement, one that the the wizened Trippi foretold would come to pass. Only O-B-Won was enough of a Jedi master to pull it off, though.

I presume "country", here, to therefore be shorthand for "a Democrat as President".

I want my vacation from history back?
It's not your country; It's our country. Sharing can be hard, but it is quite unavoidable under the circumstances.
I don't think the sticker is official Obama merchandise.
Then let Obama come out and disown it, like he should be disowning his messiah status.
Ah, but that won't help him get elected! Just like laying out a thought out and consistent policy won't either (or, at least that is what he seems to believe)
Obama - who else would dare to have the audacity to hope in the freest most opportunistic nation in human history!
Or wait, was someone else in possession of his country and that is why hope was so audacious?
Guess maybe I should have clarified that as HOWARD Dean, since there’s another Dean who hangs out around here on occasion…
why should he be required to disown it? because you asked him to? he probably doesn't even know about it. is there any evidence that it's even popular?
Because he wants to be a leader. And not just any leader; the leader of the U.S. gov, the nation, his party, the free world. Being a leader means you have to stand up if your followers put something up about you or your candidacy and you don't disown it it means (as a leader) you approve of it, period.
Another example that the Dems don't understand leadership and are not ready to lead.
damn, gotta watch what I type.
but you can't hold him responsible for something he doesn't know anything about. saying you're going to hold him accountable for something somebody on the net wrote about him unless and until he denounces it is ridiculous. not only is he not aware of the bumper sticker, but he's also unaware of your personal request of him.
It still stands if it were a major player or group, though.
definitely if it was something that was more high level.
i wonder if this election is going to be the polite/boring or the most subtle? prob'ly all the dirty stuff will be on the net, mostly.
I think you’ve nailed it!
Are you off the pain meds?
thanks for asking
The real issue here, in my H-U-M-B-L-E opinion is the rank divisiveness (not to mention hypocrisy) inherent in the "I want my country back!" whine.
It would be difficult to formulate a more wrong-headed way of thinking about politics in a democracy. It is not "your" country, and it is not "my" country, and it hasn't gone away, nor has it been transformed into some sort of police state. If it had, Michael Moore and Noam Chompsky woulde be rotting in a re-education camp somewhere, if they were allowed to live.
"Dissent is Patriotic" (another piece of insincere bee ess) may very well be about to take on a deliciously ironic twist.
It looks like you're right. I stand corrected. The Senator still has a shot at my vote.
Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.
Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
