Dean's World

Defending the liberal tradition in history, science, and philosophy.

Congrats to the New York Giants on pulling off one of the biggest upsets ever.

Just goes to show, the team that gets to the quarterback usually wins.

That catch by Tyree was amazing too. Good game.

Very good game. I'm a lifelong Patriots fan, and the Giants outplayed the Pats hands down. Storybook finish to the post season, with the Giants going from wild card to winner after a lackluster regular season that did not demonstrate the level of talent they've put on in the last several weeks.

You could say it was a game of destiny. The Giants dodged a number of bullets on that final drive, and not to take anything away from their performance, but their two biggest plays of the day were both balls Eli threw up for grabs, and his receivers beat the defense to come down with them.

Brady had to figure he'd pulled out a fourth Super Bowl victory with his 80 yard drive with just over two minutes left, and 90% of the time he'd have been right. But Eli and the Giants just refused to lose.

As a Cowboys fan, I have to say it is hard to root for the Giants, but as that game went on, and Eli proved to be Mr. Cool as never before, I found myself rooting more and more for him and the Giants. The ONLY reason I wish the Patriots had pulled it out is to shut up the '72 Dolphins. I am so sick of their yearly "we're the only undefeated team ever" schtick.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.

Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
