Edwards Dropping Out?

This could be a huge boost for Obama.

With Edwards in, it looked like Hillary was still in a very strong position to win on Feb 5th. But you have to think his supporters will go to Obama now, even without an endorsement pushing them that way.

Here's the thing: Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton would not be a good ticket. It would excite a very large part of the base, yes, but in the general election neither candidate adds much that the other doesn't already have.

Edwards, on the other hand, would be a plus to have on the ticket for either Obama or Clinton.

If Edwards openly endorses Obama, this means he is less interested in the VP spot than some people would assume. If he stays uncommitted until the convention and/or until the nominee is known for a fact, then we can assume differently.

I don't see Edwards as a plus for either candidate. He did jack shit for Kerry in 04 as running mate and rather than growing in the intervening 4 years, he's approximately 1% the candidate he was then.

My word, even for the AP, that story's abominable. It couldn't be any more fawning if Mr. Edwards had written it himself.

I don't know how many of Edwards supporters will go to Obama. Edwards drew from two crowds, young hip true believers and blue colar workers. The first group, the one that blogs, will certainly go for Obama now. But the second group is actually larger, and more likely to go for Clinton I think.

Martin,

had the exact same reaction.

Dave J,

Maybe you're right. I always thought Edwards' support was mostly far-lefties, but I haven't looked at it that closely.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.

Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
