Dean's World

Defending the liberal tradition in history, science, and philosophy.

Homeland Haunted By Death and Heartbreak.

A chilling new study finds that members of a certain profession, one very necessary to protect our freedoms, are committing violent crimes at an alarming rate, victims of an environment that warps their morality and destroys their emotional stability.

I'm not sure what can be done about this tragic toll, just that something should be -- nay, must be done, both for their sake and for the safety of the public.

I notice that a few days after the media covers a man who threw his four children off a bridge, another guy does the same thing.

Through their coverage of the military, through their glorification of mass and serial murderers, through their lopsided coverage of politics, I've simply come to the point where I regard the media as liars and as the enemy.

Agreed! All they care about is ratings. They are destroying freedom of the press by abusing that freedom.

Jeez, did anybody look at their "media statistical chart"?? Notice something wrong with it? Typical media reporting....

I'd like to see a statistical comparison to the general population, before we conclude this is specific to the journalism profession.

... those are just the ones that get reported...
You'd have to go through police records to get the ones that aren't buried. Professional courtesy, ya know.

It was a very nice chart. I liked the purple. It had a really snappy contrast with the gray. Colors help with math a lot. It was very thoughtful, really. Journalism should reach out to everybody.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.

Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
