This is such great fodder for jokes. Makes me miss the late night talk show circus. In their stead...

They'll be the toast of the town...

I'll drink to that...

I hear Ted Kennedy was funding the research...

I hear the genetic alteration done to the mice was to make them express the gene for being Irish...

Today Budweiser announced a new additive... Consumers puzzled as no one can recall getting drunk enough off of Bud to do any damage...

I will be happy if lives are saved.

At the same time, I wonder a little bit whether it's a good thing that we can medically remove consequences of our actions. Will that make us just take riskier actions?

Nothing concrete here, just an idle concern...

Lots of things cause cirrhosis, not just alcohol. And, frankly, why someone in the throes of addiction should be sentenced to death rather than rehabilitation I have no idea...

A clean, clear, perfectly functioning red liver should be declared a universal right. And of course, along with the right to dump anything in your body as you wish for as long as your want.

Uh huh. Because all those folks who got cirrhosis from Hep infections, fatty liver disease, or from prescription pills are all dumping anything into their bodies that suits their fancy....

Anyway, this is one of our nation's top killers. It would do well to remember that.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.

Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
