Dean's World

Defending the liberal tradition in history, science, and philosophy.

Darn It!

Still more great news from Iraq.

No wonder the media wants to talk about other things!

Yes, this news is indeed good -- but I don't think it's terribly important. Americans seem to treat war with a kind of play-by-play analysis. We just completed a 30-yard pass. Good for us. But we really should be worrying about the big picture, not this petty stuff. When things were really bad, I wasn't particularly concerned with the latest atrocity of the month, or the body count scorecard, or any of that petty stuff that dominates the nightly news and means almost nothing.

I have written up a lengthy four-part analysis of the strategic issues that we need to grapple with in the Iraq War. You can find it at my blog at

http://civildiscussionbetween.blogspot.com/

I encourage everybody to read it, as it will give you much food for thought. However, if you wish to comment on it, you'll need to conform to the very strict rules of civility that I define in the first post (at the bottom).

No wonder we're doing well in Iraq. Look at what type of spies saddam sent over to America:

NY Times

For those of you that think the CIA does a lousy job, let me repeat a saying that belongs to Navy SEAL's:

"We're not great, everybody else just sucks."

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.

Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
