It's really just silly. It frustrates me so much sometimes to see that just about everyone (including me, part of why it bugs me) does whatever they can to short circuit their thinking on issues for which they have strong emotions. Marcotte is not deeply disturbed, but she obviously is not acting in good faith here. Her ability to twist words and cast aspersions and impugn worst-case motives into every sentence is truly astounding.

Remember, this is the blogger that the John Edwards Presidential campaign fired and then had to dismiss when it came across some of her more vitriolic and hateful writings.

I was only mildly sympathetic because the Edwards campagn were stupid to have hired her in the first place. Not because she's particularly more angry and outspoken than others in politics, but because no campaign can afford to have someone like that on their public payroll (they couldn't take me either, or a guy like Kim du Toit, for the same sort of reasons).

Still, sexist and hateful rants are nothing new for this woman.

A lot of the comments are even worse.

I think it's been established already that Amanda Marcotte is a raving nut. I don't know if she has a job or not but I doubt she'd be able to keep it for long if her employer found her site.

She wields an ugly straw-man on the Duke case, apparently mistaking the objection to presumption of guilt and malicious prosecution for an objection to filing charges at all.

I get the feeling she doesn't want to understand the objection.

Worse, I think she's fallen into "dehumanizing the enemy". That's a pattern I've been noticing more and more of late. It's starting to disturb me.

I'm pretty sure the words "I was mistaken" were excised from her vocabulary a long time ago.

I get the feeling that she's confident that male violence is the real problem, and she'll beat the snot out of anyone who disagrees.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.

Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
