Was there supposed to be a paused between the two "thats?" This is the only way I can make that sentence sound right in my ears. Either way though, you can lose a "that" and it will sound better.
If by "silly" you mean "points out the silliness of others", I have to agree. Gods be good people, let Ahmadinejad show the world how absurd he is by giving him a platform. Our fear of him empowers him. Our laughter would serve to weaken him. Why do we continue to treat him as anything other than a buffoon from a backwards nation?
Given relations between our countries I could see denying him a visa,
Uh, yeah. Hey, "liberal" blogger, what about the execution of gays and repression of women, free speech, free press...
No, it's just those troublesome "relations." If only our leaders could play nice, everything would be hunky-dory.
Presumably we can be frank enough to acknowledge that the real issue here is that while Ahmadinejad is not Arab to most of us he looks pretty Arab. And he is Muslim certainly -- and pretty up in arms about it at that. And we officially don't like him.
See, the real issue is that Republicans are racist bigots and "officially don't like him."
Honestly, I don't see how anyone can take Joshua Micah Mendacity Marshall seriously.
If I had a column in 'Atlantic' I would try harder, that's all I can say.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.
Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.
Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
No, by "silly" he means "hammers on the silliness of Republicans, but is mysteriously blind to Democrats making exactly the same silly statements".

I don't think he's /mendacious/, I just think he's a partisan complete with blinders. Reason enough to ignore him.
