I don't get it.
What's the point of issuing a stay in this case? Either let them get married, or don't. Don't go jerkin' people's gherkins.
For my part, I don't understand why gay-rights activists are going straight for the brass ring here. From what I've read of previous civil-rights efforts, victory was often attained not in a single ruling, but rather in a series of rulings over time that nibbled at the edges of the relevant doctrine before finally driving a stake through its heart.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.
