TR's dad was ashamed all of his life that he'd paid somebody to take his place fighting in the Civil War (it wasn't an uncommon practice for the rich).
TR lived what he said. The man took risks, big risks. With Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln he deserves to be on Mount Rushmore as an example of what a man should aspire to.
Lord knows I don't make the measure, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be ideals to strive for.
Washington: See what kind of man mastered himself and kept a great cause together, showing what personal honor and an understanding of public duty and sacrifice is.
Jefferson: See what kind of man penned that great document, and swore hostility to all who would enslave the mind.
Lincoln: See what what kind of man was steadfast to do what is right as we can see the right, and yet had the deepest well of humility an magnanimity of anyone.
Roosevelt: See what kind of man rose above his physical limitations to show courage both physical and moral and never wavered from it.
Those were men.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.
Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.
Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
The man was well ahead of his time.
Or maybe just well ahead of ours.
