If all we wanted was oil, and didn't give a shit about Iraqis, Fallujah, Anbar and a host of other cities would have been turned to dust about 3 years ago. You know, to set an example about just what happens to cities who we even suspect IEDs originate from.
But instead, we neccessarily take more casualties to try and help foster a civil society. And one still hears the glib (and economically nonsensical) howls of "It's all about stealing oil!"
Never would it cross one of these peoples minds that it would have been much cheaper (and more ingratiating to 'world sentiment') to simply let the sanctions regime continue to crumble and just buy oil from Saddam at cut rate prices - No messy fights, no screaming headlines, no blood for oil accusations, just cheap oil while Saddam quietly continues his institutional slaughter.
Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.
Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
