It's amazing the naivete that sentiments like that reveal, Martin. It shows no concept of what real imperialism and conquest looks like.
If all we wanted was oil, and didn't give a shit about Iraqis, Fallujah, Anbar and a host of other cities would have been turned to dust about 3 years ago. You know, to set an example about just what happens to cities who we even suspect IEDs originate from.
But instead, we neccessarily take more casualties to try and help foster a civil society. And one still hears the glib (and economically nonsensical) howls of "It's all about stealing oil!"
Never would it cross one of these peoples minds that it would have been much cheaper (and more ingratiating to 'world sentiment') to simply let the sanctions regime continue to crumble and just buy oil from Saddam at cut rate prices - No messy fights, no screaming headlines, no blood for oil accusations, just cheap oil while Saddam quietly continues his institutional slaughter.
People who call America an Imperialist power generally haven't the faintest idea what real imperialism looks like. Although I'm often tempted to argue that America SHOULD start acting the part of an imperialist, since we're constantly falsly slandered as such a power anyway.
What a terrific article. Good for them. I am so thankful that they are working together and all were fine ;-)

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.
Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.
Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
