I think Gina and Phil were the only two to "upgrade" last night, Gina because she finally put it all together, and Phil because he displayed depth in his voice that was unexpected.
I’ve felt for the last few weeks that Doolittle has it clinched, but I’m not so sure anymore. I had a co-worker tell me today that there is no way he’ll vote for her because she just looks too weird.
I think that’s a shame. But I think I understand.
When I see her sing, I have an ancient urge to throw toast at the screen and yell “Where’s your f---en neck?!?”
But still, that voice…. Radio could be very good for her.
One of the things I've always liked about the show is that people who do not "look like" pop stars do very well, mostly by force of personality and sheer ability.
In other words, the show routinely proves that it's not just about who's cutest and has the best image.
Look at Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Clay Aiken, Taylor Hicks, and many others who've done very well--none had any "image" to sell except their personalities and their voices.
When you get obsessed with their looks, you're kind of vindicating the show's critics who say that it's all about image. Which to me is wrong; the amazing thing about it is how well people do who *don't* have perfect teeth, perfect bodies, or uber-cutesy personalities.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.
Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.
Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.

I'm ready to see both Phil and Sanjaya go away, anytime now. Tomorrow will do.
But what's with Jordin? She seems to be bulking up considerably of late. Terrific talent, though.
I ruined Melinda for my wife when I said if she were green she'd look like Shrek. Now she ca't even look at here.
That's who she reminded me of.. I just couldn't place it.. Thanks!!
