Get A first Life
J.A. Eddy
I’m not sure how many people in this crowd are familiar with the Second Life online community/game. It is essentially a MMORPG like World of Warcraft or EverQuest, but with the twist that it creates a virtual world similar to the real world, but where the ‘residents’ (players) build the world themselves. There’s been a good deal of hype about Second Life, particularly in the British press, which of course lead to the typical warnings about the addictive nature of on-line gaming, the dangers inherent in virtual communities and the ever-present notion that this is all a scam.
Oh, and of course, there is also a parody site, Get a First Life.
There is also a letter to the parody site from the Linden Labs (creators of Second Life) legal department. Get a First Life is pretty funny. The letter is priceless.

That bit cracked me up.
Well done!

I wish they made some of the links active and had more parody material.
I was flummoxed that parents would actually pay real money for fake things. Then comes Word of Warcrack where you can get 100 gold for $15 or some crap like that.
It's an awesome idea. I could save myself the effort and just cut a hole in my wallet.
SimCity 4's addons (maps, mods, blds, etc) are user programmed and are downloadable free.
And you can count that you wont find random hookers walking about.
Cheerio,
Actually, the author notes that he contemplated it, but thought he didn't have enough "funny" to fill all the links. So he stuck to the one page.
And yes...gold buying is against the terms but I talk to people who give it to their kids as a gift, and some people would rather buy a ready made character than develop one, which is sad in my opinion.
I was remarking that I am mortified at how easily we will hand over real money for fake stuff.
Speaking of which there are terrorists in Second Life who go around destroying people's property and businesses.
Sweden is opening an embassy in Second Life and several new agencies have bureaus. There is now a proper radio station in second life called Crystal Clear Radio.
If you are interested in SL you might want to listen to next weeks Lagwolf &Lair show.
Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.
Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
