Dean's World

Defending the liberal tradition in history, science, and philosophy.

That Floyd Abrams magic, or truly scrumptuous

The arrogant New York Times loses again.

The Supreme Court agrees with the Second Circuit: If there were a reporters' privilege under the First Amendment, it still wouldn't give you a free ticket to do absolutely anything you want to undermine your country.

Fantasmagorical, Floyd! Hat tip to Instapundit on Beldar's reemergence from that dungeon in Vulgaria. Sweet to have you back!

Jeffrey Boser:
I'm a big believer in the freedom of speech/press.

But seriously, calling the targets of an investigation, ANY investigation and not just terrorist ones, on the eve of a takedown, is just wrong.

The author of that article jumped to some rather lame conclusions (the FBI wasn't prevented from completing their operation for one thing), though.

Ron: I'm most impressed by your ditty in Beldar's comments!

And what Jeffrey said: The gov't was only hindered and the effect of the raids/freezes limited. Still very bad, still very actionable, of course.

It's nice to see the press learning some accountability.

Dean, I don't think they have learned yet. That will happen when a reporter or editor is indicted, tried, convicted, and sentenced for espionage. Maybe not even then.

Mike's right. They will make a martyr of such a one and it will drive them only further to the anti-government opposition. That doesn't mean it shouldn't happen.

For many years, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was on display a few miles from here, at a place called Gaslight Village, a tourist attraction in Lake George, NY. The owner, Charlie Wood, was a collector and opened a small museum on the property. It was pretty neat, and the car was just gorgeous.

Mr. Wood went on to affiliate with Paul Newman to open the Hole In The Woods camp locally. It's for children with devastating health issues.

I remember the car and it made me smile to see the photo of it here.
