Vanessa Mae

Well, now isn't this lovely violin music?

More right here. (Via Sandi, who has two additional tracks.)

She might as well have been naked, and playing the violin with a large, greased-up cucumber. It would have sound about the same, and carried the visual theme further down its arc.

I thought it sounded wonderful myself. :-)

It *sounds* wonderful... but is it truly necessary to have a bunch of half-naked people groping each other in half the shots?

Dean Esmay:
Groping? Looked like dancing to me. Nothing more suggestive than I've seen at more than one ballet.

I am sure it is necessary if there is going to be any money made from violin playing.

It's probably a side effect of the Internet Age, where modern communciations creates a surfeit of talent. Like a top ranked Ivy picky through applicants, the actual determinants are usually trivially because the candidates have all maxxed out the important ones.

I didn't know commenters here were so prudish, but if the skin bothered you try her tamer foot stompin Cotton Eye Joe.

But if you can't handle foot stompin music try the snappy Sabre Dance although you may (horrors) see a couple of bare male chests.

Sabre Dance was great, but the best one is Toccata and Fugue. I could hardly hear the violin part on Destiny, the back beat was so loud, kind of ruined it for me.

I've listened to Vanessa-Mae for years now. Since I was in high school, in fact, a little over ten years ago, with The Violin Player. But if there is one tune that she has played that cemented my admiration for her work, it's got to be Doun. I'm glad you wrote of her, Dean.

Yowza! Though with that sort of beat in the background, I'm thinking the correct term is "Fiddle Playin"... If it makes you want to sit in an uncomfortable seat in formal-wear, it's a violin. If it makes you wanna dange, it's a fiddle!

Er, dance, that is. PIMF.

Apparently the Red Hot tour is available on DVD but I'd like to find out where the Sabre Dance is hiding.

It could go right next to my Cirque du Soleil videos, "for the refreshment of the spirit."
