So who is the anonymous Senator?

I just sent a polite note to both of my Senators. You should feel free to send something similar to both of your own Senators--you have only two, after all. Here's what I sent:

Hi Senator (Levin, Stabenow). I have a question: are you the anonymous Senator who is blocking S. 2590? Because if you are I would like you to stop blocking it. If you aren't, please let me know. Thanks.

No one who has to look up his senators has a (moral) right to ask them anything!

I wish I didn't know who my Senators were. It might lessen the shame...

Mikulski and Sarbanes, BTW. They're both awful, and thankfully Sarbanes is retiring. Probably be someone just as bad replacing him, tho (Mfume? ugh).

Ronald, why would you say that? I don't remember the name of my insurance agent, but I'd expect her to answer my questions and process my claims just the same. That is her job, after all.

FWIW, I happen to have the same set of Senators as Dan does: Sarbanes and Mikulski. I have nothing good to say about either of them on national issues, but Mikulski at least has a reputation for being responsive to constituents. I'll write to them later and see if I get a reply.

I would have ignored your request. Anonymously blocking legislation without you finding out about it is a senatorial privilege. Among other things, it enables individual senators to delay frequently unwise but temporarily popular measures without being singled out for voter retribution.
