Lordi

So I read that a group called "Lordi" has won the 2006 Eurovision song contest.

I found one of their recent performances that helped put them over the top. Heh. These guys make Kiss look like they just weren't trying hard enough.

"Hard! Rock! Hallelujah!!!!"

Man. The Europeans, they're so much more advanced than us simple Americans.

Update:

Lordy lordy, I can't get enough of Lordi. Here's "Bringin' Back The Balls To Rock And Roll":

Dude. Where can I get some shoes like that? And check out that cowbell!!

Did they actually say "a-rock-alypse"? "Day of rockening?" It's like Spinal Tap with latex foreheads! In other words, I love it.

They did indeed.

The sparks off the end of the guitars show that they are true artists. That's your rockotheosis right there dude...

I should mention, in case y'all didn't know, that heavy metal is still HUGE in parts of Europe, including Finland and Norway. I mean, huge like it was here in the '80s, and they're totally serious about it, it's not "retro" or ironic in any way. Lordi isn't a fluke, in other words.

It is interesting to consider that this music is descended in a fairly direct way from Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry isn't it?

Here's the "Hard Rock Hallelujah" video. If you think the song alone is funny, you'll love this.

Lordy, Lordi Dean, I am laughing at YOU! Now how in the world did I find myself agreeing with you after listening to that and then stepping back and imagining Buddy and Berry in those outfits. Lordi, Lordy, I am giggling away *AT YOU* and your mind ;-)

To give them their due, Blood Red Sandman is actually kind of cool.

Their outfits are inspired by characters from Finnish mythology. Trust the Finns to save us all from the Euro-rubbish that previously filled Eurovision.
