L.A. Times vs. New York Times

So the New York Times has gained a well-earned reputation for slipshod, dishonest, absurdly partisan reporting when it comes to any issue that remotely touches on American politics. But the real question is, which is worse? The New York Times or the Los Angeles Times? Patterico's been doing a great job pointing out just how bad the L.A. Times has gotten. Follow all his links, and shake your head at the travesty.

Who watches the watchmen? Patterico, for one.

I've long believed that the only difference between the L.A. Dog Trainer and the N.Y. Dog Trainer was the quality of the writing. The New Yorkers have a way of at least sounding intelligent.

That's one thing I love about the blogosphere. You used to have to write a letter to the editor of one of those papers and hope they chose to publish it. Now, a blogger can fisk them to death and they can't stop him or her. It was bloggers like Andrew Sullivan who brought down "Howling Howell" Raines.

I don't have much chance to see the New York Times but I can tell you the L.A. Times is useless as a news source. I started reading the L.A. Times in the late 50s and after 40 years it had gotten so bad I stopped even looking at it. Now it is worse. If I find the paper laying around at the donut shop I'll read it and get angry enough to ignore it for another month.

I doubt either paper will return as a serious source until it changes hands.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.

Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
