Star-Spangled Banner

Cody Hatch has a pretty nice article on the Star-Spangled banner that you might enjoy reading.

mmm. What I like is the the tone of the SSB- the address to the hearer.
In the first part "oh, say can you see?" there's a question being asked, because Key couldn't see it, except in flashes and between smoke.
BUT, in the second part "Oh, say: does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O'er the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave?" There's a direct challenge- Do YOU see it? Its like "neener neener" to the British Captain.

LOL

'Tis a stirring anthem to our great and free country, especially when you read the full text of it. Even more a propos after September 11, 2001.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.

Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
