You did?

Fonts are OK, but the layout is broken in Safari.

The content (what should be the middle column) renders below all the ads in the column on the right.
One word per line. Tough to read.

(I'm using Firefox to post this - no rendering problems there).

We're working on the Safari issue.

Hate the new logo.

I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Yup better. Leading between heading and text is still a bit too tight.

It is better this way, though I liked the old, bigger, Dean's World logo better.

Dean's World is looking fairly good in Opera 7.51 and Mozilla 1.3.1 for Linux (but slightly different in the two browsers: par for the course). The center column is missing in Konqueror 3.1.0 (same rendering engine as Safari).

Ah, you must have changed something right between when I loaded Dean's World in Opera, and when I loaded it in Mozilla. Now, reloading in Opera, it looks almost exactly the same as in Mozilla— which is to say, the new fonts do indeed look better.

Great! This Font is much better!

Much better.

All that's left is the "Defending..." quote, which has actually moved down in my browser. This makes it overlay the top of the first box, with the tops of capitals and "f" sticking over the top of the box.

When I switch default fonts (from the "FreeSerif" etc. fonts to Bitstream Vera), though, the issue goes away. I suspect the vertical height for those fonts is off (something I've actually suspected for a while), and the font renderer is doing the nasty deed.

If I feel motivated, I'll look into it. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

(Don't forget content in the RSS feed!)

Jeff,

Would you mind looking into whether it's just a font misrendering issue on your browser's part before I go trying to fix what I might not be able to (if it's indeed that your font renderer is breaking on this font, there's no way that I can fix that, especially if when I added a bit of space it made it worse for you)?

As for content in the RSS, you're too late. Look at the sidebar again in the "Subscribe" section.

Ah! I had missed the full content feed. Most excellent!

The rendering seems to have improved even from when I had checked last. Even when I switch back to FreeSans, etc. the "Defending" line now only touches the top of the boxes. In Bitstream Vera, it looks fine.

So don't worry yourself about it. As I mentioned, if I happen to get motivated enough to investigate and it's something wrong at Powerblogs, I'll let you know.

Safari display problem:

I see this from time to time on my own page and was puzzled for a bit.

In general, the culprit seems to be an open tag in a post such as a call for a blockquote that isn't closed with /blockquote.

Once this is posted to an entry, the code will cause, as it now does, the right column to shift down and below the main column.

This will persist until the posting with the unclosed tag scrolls off the main page, at which the right column will appear in the proper place in Safari again.... until the next time you forget to close a formatting quote in the main column.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.

Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
