Dean's World

Defending the liberal tradition in history, science, and philosophy.

48 Hours

It's been 48 hours since we put the DNS change in, and still most people are getting the old site when they go to deanesmay.com. This seems odd.

I can see the new site.

My DNS switched over yesterday. It's my understanding, though, that Windows DNS caching is a bit more tenacious than Mac. Try doing "ipconfig /flushdns" at the command prompt if you're running NT, 2000, or XP.

They're doing better than I am. I am getting logged in as "unkwown" when in truth I am...

Oh, to hell with it all. I know when I'm licked by a computer system, and I hope I have better sense than to fight it. So "unknown" I shall remain.

(PS: Bit by bit I'm getting used to Dean's new toy. Except for the narrow hard-to-read columns in which the original posts appear, and the crummy looking thin courier type faces on both the articles and comments.)

(PS2: Let's all donate this guy some money so he doesn't have to clog up his blogsite with so many ads for this people don't purchase.)

Mine keeps flopping back and forth- I'll get the new site, then the old one, then the new one again... it's actually kind of exciting. Which will it be this time?

Yes, I do need a life. Why do you ask?

Arnold, your name's coming up just fine when you post. I don't know why you think you're showing as "Unknown," you look pretty known to me.

Commenting on Dean's World is a privilege, not a right. Dean is your host, you are his guest, and you should behave in that fashion. Dean is not your babysitter, nor is he your punching bag. Please remember this. In general, you are free to disagree with anyone on any subject you wish, but abusive behavior will not be tolerated.

Of course we all lose our tempers now and then. Dean freely admits to being imperfect in this regard, which is why regulars to this establishment will generally be cut more slack than people who we don't know very well.

Still: behave like an adult, or go find somewhere else to play. Thanks.
